Coby Maria Crump

Updated: Sep 26

March, 26, 1974 - September 22, 2024

Our beautiful, beloved daughter, sister and aunt, Coby Maria Crump, 50, left us on September 22. 2024.

She was born March 26, 1974, at Fort Rucker, Alabama to Blaine Elden and Marianne Scott Crump. Three other siblings joined the family: Justin, Courtney and Jeffery.  She created a special relationship with each of them.

Coby attended school in West Jordan, Utah, graduating from West Jordan High School.  She pursued further education at BYU.  As a lifelong learner she loved learning, loved watching documentaries and reading about history.  Her special passion was World War II.  She read many books about it and watched many World War II documentaries.   She joined the Stories Behind the Stars project, whose goal was to write a biography about every U.S. service member killed in World War II.  She became the Utah State Director for this project.  She researched and wrote nearly 100 biographies of soldiers that had not been acknowledged for their service and their ultimate sacrifice.  She felt strongly that each person who gave their life for their country should be remembered.

While attending BYU, she participated in a study abroad program in England.  Thus, began her love of traveling.  Her motto was, “I haven’t been everywhere, but it is on my list.”  She traveled extensively with family and friends.  There wasn’t a city she couldn’t figure out how to conquer.

Coby loved her nieces and nephews.  She always found the perfect gift or experience to share with them.  She supported them in their pursuits: attending sports games, concerts, plays and recitals they were in.  She took them to playgrounds, concerts, lunch, shopping and traveling.   Her favorites are Kaylee, Ben, Kelsey, Alex, Sean, Andrew, Kirstin, Jared and Callie.

She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She was a dedicated employee at Applied Geotechnical Engineering Consultants, Inc. for more than 28 years.

With dignity and an iron will, Coby navigated the last four years battling cancer.  We are grateful to each family member, friend and medical personnel that helped her through that very difficult journey.  Above all we are grateful for the years that our Heavenly Father allowed us to have her with us, and the many things that she taught us.  We have returned her to the arms of our Savior and her family members that have preceded her.  We know we will be together again.

Coby is survived by her parents Blaine and Marianne Crump, her siblings, and their spouses Justin (Kim) Crump, Courtney (Doug) McAllister and Jeffery (Autumn) Crump, and nine nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may visit Thursday September 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 South 2200 West, Riverton, Utah.  A viewing will precede the funeral from 10:00 to 10:45 am Friday September 27.  Funeral will be at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 2901 West 9000 South, West Jordan, Utah.
